Elden Ring’s performance “a mixed bag” according to Digital Foundry


Although Bandai Namco is aware of the issues and is working on more fixes.

Digital Foundry said Ring of EldenThe performance of “a mixed bag” on all platforms, with issues on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.

The site says FromSoftware’s latest build runs between 45 and 60 frames per second (FPS) in frame rate mode on Xbox Series X and PS5, while quality modes range between 30 and 60 FPS.

He also points out that Xbox Series S & X users will greatly benefit from variable refresh rate (VRR), and that the PS4 version on PS5 is the version that achieves a consistent 60 FPS on console.

On PC, the site reports that the PC version is impacted by stutters of up to 250 milliseconds when new effects or enemies appear on screen. He also cites “freefalling frame time issues” which can cause frame rates to drop from 60 to around 40.

Speaking to Stevivor, a Bandai Namco rep noted that FromSoftware is unaware of the unresolved visual issues – thanks in part to reports dropped by our own reviewer Luke Lawrie – and fixes are on the way.

Luke seems to love Ring of Eldenalthough our review remains ongoing while he completes the actual game (and perhaps evaluates future patches at the same time).

Ring of Elden is available now on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X, PS4 and PS5.
