Israel Adesanya calls Francis Ngannou’s salary ‘atrocious’ but hopes the UFC can agree a new deal to keep the ‘baddest ****** mother on the planet’ amid a contractual dispute

  • Francis Ngannou could leave the UFC without fighting again when the contract expires
  • The heavyweight champion is currently expected to be injured for 10 months
  • A pay dispute means he can’t make a new deal with the organization
  • Israel Adesanya wants Ngannou to stay rather than chase boxing matches

Israel Adesanya called Francis Ngannou’s salary “atrocious” and said he would be “sad” if the heavyweight champion left the UFC.

Ngannou, who defeated Ciryl Gane to retain her title at UFC 270, has been embroiled in a pay dispute with the organization for more than a year and could be a free agent in 2023.

The champion is expected to be out of action for at least 10 months while he recovers from an ACL injury, meaning fans may not see him in the octagon again.

Adesanya spoke on the issue of the MMA timesaying, “I felt like some of the stuff that was going on before the Francis fight, which I was not a fan of.

“I just felt like some things should – like I said, it’s business, man. You can’t get too personal.

‘It’s just business. And the money is always there, there is money everywhere. You can find money everywhere. So for the UFC world heavyweight champion to get paid what he was paid was excruciating.

Ngannou’s purse for the win over Gane was £440,000, although he won considerably more in pay-per-view money.

It’s not just money he’s vying with the UFC as the Cameroon native wants the chance to box Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua for huge salaries.

Adesanya understands Ngannou’s interest in crossover fights but wants him to continue doing what he does best in the octagon.

He continued, “I don’t want him to leave the UFC. It would just be sad. I just, I feel like he’s the guy, you know? Look at him. And he is one of the three kings. I do not do it [want him to leave]. I may be selfish. But I just feel like I don’t even want him to box.

“Well, he wants to box – if he does, he should box. He can find something with the UFC and the contract. They left [Conor] McGregor does it, so they can figure something out.

“But I don’t want him to box. I’m like, you’re the baddest motherfucker on the planet.

‘You know? I don’t want him to just use his hands. If you really want to fight Francis, fight him. You know? And Tyson is the kind of guy who could do that. He is crazy. “Gypsy King”, he could do that.

“I just feel like it’s the highest level of fighting. I am not biased. I don’t care about kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, boxing – whatever style of fighting you do on your own, if it’s singular, it’s a limited form of fighting.

“If you want to fight legally, this is the way to do it. The UFC is the place to do it, where it’s like the highest level of fighting.
