‘In a world where we can be passive to the things happening around us, the collection invites us to be more receptive and open to what is part of our reality now’
After presenting his vision for the future of protective gear, Jerome Lorico, the fashion designer behind the Lorico brand, presents his latest collection at Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival 13 reflecting his vision of what is happening in the world right now. Titled “Speculo,” which in Latin means “mirror,” Jerome presents a series of elevated pieces “that twist and follow the quirky, rustic spirit of certain Filipino cultures.”
“As a creative, I believe we have a certain sensitivity to what’s going on around us,” Jerome told the Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “It gives us the ability to translate the energy or mood around us into something tangible. ‘Speculo’ is like a social commentary on what is happening in the world, in our country and in us.”
A classy comment that is. His urban clothing designs are more like modern black and white armor. The designer played with different materials to create the collection. The sportswear aesthetic is fused with the utilitarian vibe in her runway. A skin glow is courtesy of her designs in sheer. We also see on the virtual runway her bag creations completing the parade which almost looks like a march towards the future.
“At first, the pandemic proved to be a brake on the creation of the collection,” explains Jérôme. “But over time I got used to it and the work it entailed allowed me to escape the stress of the pandemic. I found that staying creative helps us overcome any type of challenge.
“In a world where we can be passive to what is happening around us, the collection invites us to be more receptive and open to what has become part of our reality,” he continues. “To be more observant, proactive and understand the truths about the world and the people around us.”
