Owner of Fortune Sound Club, Livestock and Timebomb Trading Inc., Louie has an insider perspective on what is happening in art, design and fashion.

And much of this insider’s perspective shines through in his Taikan brand. The accessories company recently expanded into clothing with a line of pieces billed as “seasonless, genderless and essential,” according to Louie.

We caught up with the founder to find out more.

Q. For those who do not know, what is TAIKAN?

A. TAIKAN is a clothing and bag brand that creates quality, minimalist products at an affordable price. The TAIKAN brand ethic is to work with our friends and creative collaborators, whether they are in photography, music, design, art or skateboarding, and to show their talents through our brand. We strive to elevate the work of our creative counterparts in our overlapping industries while creating a reliable set of seasonless, genderless and essential products that perfect everyone’s wardrobe.

Q. What makes it unique?

A. We try to do things a little differently and get a little weird with it. We put a lot of culture behind this brand and our entire team is made up of people who value creativity above all else. For example, we frequently produce editorial content in collaboration with artists from all media called TAIKAN By Editorials. The idea behind these is to allow our designers to take hold of our products and see the brand through their own lens to generate a completely unique result rather than dictating it for them. This provides us with countless unique interpretations of our brand that highlight its versatility and accessibility to all audiences and interests.

Q. Who is the target customer?

A. Really, we are so clean that anyone can wear our brand. We’re inclusive and gender neutral, and aim to fit into any closet, regardless of style. That said, the streetwear scene certainly sees a movement towards less interest in strong, branded material that speaks for the wearer. The emphasis is on minimum quality, unbranded parts.

Q. Why was this the right time to launch a clothing collection?

A. The short answer is COVID-19. We were just able to put in the time for that to happen and this is something we thought about from day one as our previous experiences have been in the world of clothing. With that in mind, the combined experience of our team along with a perfect showcase in the industry created the opportunity to give it a go, and we are delighted to continue to push it.

Q. What can you expect to find in the collection?

A. Your hoodie, t-shirt, pants, fleece, etc. favorite. We really work on perfecting the finest cuts, colors and styles to deliver the best value for money. The brand creates a variety of pieces that can shine on their own and be organized together as well as last a long time in your wardrobe to wear for years to come.

Q. Is there a “hero” piece in the collection?

A. Personally, I really like our Hand Dip Dyed Hoodies which are made from custom heavyweight fleece. The design of the gradient is quite unique but not too flashy, and the quality is what drives it at home. While sometimes it can seem like any hoodie will do, this one gives this concept a run for its money.

Q. What is the price range for the new TAIKAN clothing line?

A. $ 40 to $ 99 for tops, less than $ 100 for bottoms and bags range from $ 25 to $ 125.

Q. Finally, where can people check it?

A. You can support your favorite local brick and mortar store in Vancouver like Corner Store, Sneakerbox / J2, Dipt, or shop online at Taikaneverything.com .
