The revival of the 1955 Gucci Horsebit handbag

Recent years have seen a resurgence of iconic, archival designs from luxury fashion houses and the Gucci Horsebit handbag is one of them. Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele took a trip down memory lane to bring this handbag to life, first released as part of a collection in 1955.

A short story

The 1950s saw a wide range of products and movements in the business for Gucci, and the period has often been referred to as a golden age. The brand and its products became a household name in the fashion world, popular among the affluent elite and especially those who loved to travel. The label became synonymous with wealth and style and part of that was the much-loved release of the Horesbit collections.

Behind the name hides an ode to the equestrian world. The designs featured a double ring and helm, based on the style and shape of equestrian tools.

Today, Alessandro Michele has reinvented the original design in a collection of Gucci Horsebit handbags, each meticulously crafted for various occasions and styles.
