HAMMOND, Louisiana – University of Southeast Louisiana athletics teams will compete in the Southland Conference Championship Meet, men’s and women’s basketball teams will celebrate Seniors Day, while baseball programs, softball, tennis and beach volleyball will also be in action during this week at Southeastern Athletics. .


The Lions and Lady Lions will open competition at the 2022 Southland Conference Indoor Championships on Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama. The league’s indoor fixture runs until Monday, February 28.


The Southeast men’s and women’s basketball teams will close their home schedules this week. The Lions (15-13, 7-4 Southland) host New Orleans Thursday at 8 p.m. before Nicholls travels on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game.


The Lady Lions (12-9, 8-3 Southland) open their week with a game Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against UNO. The 1 p.m. SLU-Nicholls game will open Saturday’s doubleheader at the University Center.


After winning SIUE’s season-opening series last week, the SLU baseball team (2-1) will open its 2022 road schedule with a 6 p.m. contest Tuesday at UL Lafayette. The Southeast returns home to open a three-game set against UAB on Friday at 6 p.m. The series continues with a contest at 2 p.m. Saturday and ends Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.


The Southeast softball team (6-2) continues its swing on the road this week, participating in Mardi Gras Mambo in Youngsville, Louisiana. The Lady Lions face Portland State at 2 p.m. and Alabama at 4 p.m. Friday. Saturday’s action will see SLU take on Lipscomb at 3 p.m. and Eastern Illinois at 5 p.m. Sunday’s tournament final will see Southeastern take on St. Thomas at 9 a.m.


The Lion (0-6) tennis team has two away non-conference games this week. SLU opens the week’s action with a 2 p.m. game at Southern Wednesday. Southeastern travels to Orlando, Fla. for a game against Keizer on Sunday.


The SLU beach volleyball team will open its 2022 schedule this week at the HBU tournament. The Beach Lions take on the host Huskies at 11 a.m. Friday, before taking on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. Saturday will see Southeastern take on ULM at 10 a.m. and New Orleans at 3 p.m.

Inside Southeastern Baseball’s 2022 season with matt riser is set to debut Monday at noon from the terrace of Pour House Pizza and Beer Garden. Riser will join co-host Allen Waddell at lunchtime every Monday this season for the 60-minute show, talking about the latest in Southeast baseball. Each week, select Lion players will also join the duo. Pour House is located at 505 W. Thomas St. in Hammond. The show will initially air online at www.LionSports.net/Listen live.


The latest episode of Inside Southeastern Basketball featuring David Kiefer is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. The show will feature Kiefer and host Allen Waddell discussing Lion hoops every Monday through March 14 at Rainbow Daiquiris (14384 West Thomas Street). The show will air on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM, as well as online at www.kajun107.net.



Specials
Saturday will be senior day for the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Ahead of the Lady Lions contest with New Orleans, Caitlyn Williams, Morgan Carrier, Breonca Ducksworth, Morgan Davis, Kacey Brumfield and Chrissy Brown will be honored at a Senior Day ceremony. The Lion contingent of Keon Clergeot, Jalyn Hinton and Ryan Burkhardt will be recognized ahead of the SLU-Nicholls contest.


Thursday will be a Cane’s Challenge for the SLU-UNO doubleheader. If the Lady Lions score 50 or more points or the Lions score 60 or more points, fans can redeem their student coupon or game ticket at participating Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers for a free combo with the purchase of another of value equal or greater.


Morgan Carrier will be Thursday’s star player for the women’s basketball contest. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the New Iberia, Louisiana native, courtesy of PRIDE.
