STAUNTON – Local businesses in Staunton and Waynesboro are gearing up for small businesses on Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Small Business Saturday is an American shopping celebration that takes place on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping times of the year.

Small Business Saturday started in the United States in 2010 with American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation nonprofit. It serves as a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber ​​Monday, which offer big-box retail and e-commerce stores, respectively. Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.

According to SDDA Director Greg Beam, the Staunton Downtown Development Association has teamed up with Queen City Music Studios to have musicians / buskers on Saturday during the day downtown.
