Nicola, who also volunteers with a local animal rescue, told the Black Friday app to save money : “I first heard about the Too Good To Go app last year while I was at work.
“I downloaded it and searched for places near my home.
“I was surprised at the number of stores and restaurants participating.
“I hate food waste and love a bargain too, so I started using the app.
“It’s so easy to use and you can set favorites so you don’t miss a thing.
Usually, about 15 minutes after closing time, the company posts ‘Magic Bags’ on the app, where you just click to buy one and then pick it up that day or the next day at time indicated.
“The best I had was last Sunday at The Company Shop, which sells excess stock from other supermarkets at a discounted price.
“It costs £ 5 and is supposed to be worth £ 20, but it’s probably worth double.
“Lots of M&S and Waitrose food was included.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was so happy when I picked it up!
“I also like the element of surprise, not knowing what you’re going to get.
“This will feed my family of four for the week!”
“In the bag was a large bag of oranges, an organic eggplant, fresh parsley, vine tomatoes, two fresh fettuccine pastas, a chicken pie, pork and bacon dough swirls, potatoes miniatures, a packet of ham, lemon and herb sliced chicken breast, two packets of seed crackers, chicken breasts with cheese and bacon, chicken breasts with katsu curry, chicken breasts with ginger, cilantro and lime, chicken meatballs, mango coconut grilled chicken, green Thai chicken stir-fry, Welsh sausage, Singapore naan rice noodles with coriander, garlic and herb chicken kievs and crisp minced beef.
“Last night we had a Thai Green Curry Stir Fry using the Chicken, Herbs and Veg Stir Fry Kit from the Magic Bag.
“Tonight I used the fresh fettuccine pasta and some more chicken to make Chicken Alfredo pasta.
“Tomorrow, I am preparing a Moroccan meatball dish with the chicken meatballs, eggplant and tomatoes from the bag.
“My partner made a potato salad for working with the baby potatoes and accompanied it with the package of lemon and herb chicken breasts.
“I also put a lot of it in the freezer.
“The best places always sell out fast, so the best thing to do is find out what time their bags are released and set an alarm on your phone to remind you – that’s what I do! “

“We’re all obsessed with the app now,” she adds.
“My partner loves all the new food I make and the boys also love to see what they can find.
“I love to save money, reduce food waste, and create exciting new meals using items I wouldn’t normally buy.
“So much food is wasted and ends up in the trash when in fact it’s still perfectly edible.
“Using the Too Good To Go app prevents wasting meals and also saves me a lot of money. So in my eyes, it’s a win-win! “
Tom Church, co-founder of the savings company Black Friday app, comments: “Nicola has made a breathtaking deal here, and best of all, she is saving money while helping the planet and reducing food waste.
“In addition to Too Good To Go, be sure to check out Olio, which has free local food that people would otherwise throw away.
“And why stop at the food? Be sure to check out the local Facebook groups and Freecycle for everything from furniture to musical instruments which are offered for free.
“Let’s all work together to reuse, reuse and recycle to help our planet! “
